Don't forget now ......We are selling a wonderful little book called
'Never be the Same'
This is a precious gem that records the grief and hope journey of 5 of the siblings who lost a loved one in the Mangatepopo stream in April 15, 2008. It is profound in its simplicity and it will really speak to you. It is selling for $20 from the college office.
We congratulate Aaron Keesing on being awarded for the 3rd year an ICAS medal in 'Computer Skills'. Aaron was presented with his medal in a ceremony on Tuesday 15 December in the Aotea Centre, Auckland. Aaron we are extremely proud of you - well done!! We also congratulate all other winners and especially those from East Auckland.

First LEGO League Tournament
A team of students from Elim competed at the inaugural First LEGO League Tournament held at Strathallan School in Karaka on Saturday 12 December. It all started about eight weeks ago when we received our Mindstorms Micro-processor and kit, a competition mat and a box filled with LEGO parts. Over the next few weeks the students and coach got to grips with the building and programming of our robot called Jerie (after Jer. 29: 11 – our school motto). Students were super committed and even spent long hours at school over the weekends.
On the day of the tournament we all arrived filled with anticipation and excitement. We realised our programmes were not behaving as we expected and had to do a lot of refining during the day. We took part in some technical judging, a teamwork evaluation and a presentation of our research findings. All of these components counted to the final placing.
After three rounds with our robot we finally placed 13th out of 23 teams and got a trophy for a second place in the research division.
Overall a great but exhausting day was had by all. A big thank you to every student involved all parents for your support and to the organisers for an awesome opportunity. We are already talking on how to do it better in 2010.

Special thanks to Mr Loubser for his inspiring leadership of the students and for the incredible number of hours he has put in.
Kind regards
Murray Burton
